Education
In addition to 5 ordinary classrooms there are well equipped specialist rooms for Information Technology, Art, Music, Science, Craft Design and Technology. The school has tennis courts and extensive playing fields and a large indoor sportshall. The school has a networked facility for ICT.
While some Pupils require extra help in Literacy and Numeracy for which we offer specialist withdrawal, others may be guided towards achieving success in external examinations.
The school follows the National Curriculum, presenting a wide variety of subjects in small group settings. The school has specialist teachers in Mathematics, English, Science, ICT, Design Technology, Art, Media, Drama, P.E., History, Geography and Religious Education. The maximum size of each class is eight.
Each class has a Tutor who supports their Pastoral needs and liaises with a named Key Worker on the Care staff to provide comprehensive support for each individual pupil.
Teachers are well qualified and the school has a firm commitment to In-Service Training for all staff.
Close contact is maintained with each boy’s home to inform Parents and Carers of Pupils progress. Boys are expected to visit home at weekends whenever this is appropriate; increasingly so as they become older or more stable. The school has normal school holidays which coincide with those of local schools.
Regular Reviews are held of each boy’s progress, and Parents and local authorities representatives are expected to attend.
