Lumuli Visit
Muntham House School has been extremely fortunate through the Global Curriculum Project to have entered into a partnership with Lumuli Primary School near Kitale in Western Kenya.
For the last two weeks, 23rd November – 4th December 2009, Muntham House School near Horsham in West Sussex has entertained and worked with Mr. Dickson Okema, Mrs Pauline Wachira and Mrs Scholastica Ndalila, Headteacher and Teachers respectively from Lumuli.
In their time at Muntham we have been able to share our experiences and skills through team teaching, joint planning and setting up learning projects with the theme that ‘Education is Light’.
The Global Curriculum Project funds the schools joint working so that peers in both countries can work collaboratively in ways that benefit their communities of pupils and staff.
We have together established projects which in the long term will bring the schools closer. These include subjects close to both schools; the sustainable environment, Personal Development, Geography, History and Science. A great deal has already been achieved and both groups of staff have learned a great deal from each other.
At a later stage we hope to establish electronic links so that each of our schools can regularly communicate with each to inform and support on the agreed topics and as an alternative curriculum facility which both schools can use.
Whilst visiting Muntham our guests have also been very busy speaking to other schools to get a greater understanding of the education system in England. They have also had the opportunity to share living experiences with us as hosts and in visiting places of interest in West Sussex and in London
We would like to celebrate the enthusiasm of the children and staff for this project for a long time to come and if the hard work and inspiration shown by Dickson, Pauline and Scholastica is anything to go by, then the partnership between our two schools should benefit our students and their education greatly.
